‘’Matenrou Opera’s’’ shocking 2nd single, the motif is ‘’the pleasure of revenge’’

The alluring due to its symphonic sound Matenrou Opera drops its long awaited 2nd single! The three people Sono (Vo), Anzi (G) and Yu (Dr) talk about the allure of their music and the other side of production.

-‘’Otoshiana no Soko ha Konna Sekai’’ has really turned into a song with a strong symphonic metal color to it, right.

Sono

I think of all the songs we’ve made up till now in different styles this one is the closest to metal.

Anzi

Because the previous single ‘’Helios’’ was made like ‘’let’s give it a sound that the people, not our fans but the world in general would imagine if they saw our name, Matenrou Opera, for the first time!’’… we made the symphonic elements strong. Since we change our direction very suddenly we followed suit this time too. On an individual level it has the image of a blend of the songs that represented us in the past.

Yu

During the production period I held this conviction that this would be a song that represents us from here on out. Saying ‘’will this single sell out?’’ this is the band I am in, right (lol)?

-Sono’s voice is rich in variation in this one song. Is there a specific theme to it?

Sono

I was mindful about singing with a visual kei style. Since there’s this trend with visual kei singers where it’s unthinkable if they can’t sing in these three ways of clean vocals, falsetto and shouting, I had to do it. Since I change my style of singing in different sections this result comes out of there being a scene change, right.

-The contrast of symphonic elements and the guitar giving and edge to the music creates a unique audio image.

Anzi

In our music there’s a strong color of the keyboard going back into the past, right. Actually, since we’ve went major I’ve been told by our director very frequently that ‘’I’d like a cool guitar riff’’,  and so this time it’s a work where I was very conscious of playing a cool riff so that the kids who play the guitar would want to play it too.

-The lyrics are so filled with hatred it’s audacious.

Sono

The theme is ‘’hatred’’. The motif has become juvenile crime. The main character is a person of whom an important person was murdered. However, the criminal is a youth so the law cannot punish him for it. Saying, ‘’in that case, only I can do it’’ he makes the crime into a reality and as a result the revenge turns into pleasure. I’ve painted the sentiments of such a protagonist.

-The coupling song with the first release limited edition ‘’Sleeping Beauty’’ sets a completely different, slow pace, how was this song born to be this way?

Sono

I made it while singing and playing the guitar. In the lyrics I painted someone’s feelings after the person they loved passed away at the end of fighting illness.  Because it’s a simple song I made it immediately without wavering over the arrangement.

Yu

With slow tempo songs like these it’s important you don’t get drowned out by the group so I spread my drumming out over the song.

-The coupling song with the regular edition ‘’Diorama Wonderland’’ is an impressive hard-number with a sharp edge and a powerful rhythm, right.

Anzi

Because it’s a song our keyboardist Ayame brought in, there’s a lot of digital sound contrasting with the beauty of the chord. In Ayame’s own explanation exactly because this contrast is there, it’s a Matenrou Opera type song.

-Throughout the arrangements of all the songs there’s a lot of unison in the guitar, keyboard and drums, which makes it thrilling.

Anzi

In the past too there were a lot of parts with this unison and the phrases became blurred but now we did our best to slim the number of these parts down and endeavored to keep it simple&tight. Because that way the individual phrases become visible. I think the individual parts here too have points we grew in.
